Sustainability initiatives rarely fail because people lack commitment. They fail because the system pushing back is more complex than anyone mapped.

I work with decision-makers in strategy and sustainability doing serious work under high stakes. People who have the will, the mandate, and often the budget; but too many fronts competing for attention, and too little visibility into where their efforts will actually land.

That work began in international development cooperation in Lao PDR; where I first learned that the most consequential systems are rarely the ones anyone drew a diagram of. I hold an MBA in Sustainability Management; and over the years I have worked with organizations and public institutions across countries and sectors where the stakes were high and the answers were not obvious. Today I work primarily in Germany and the broader EU.

What I bring is a kind of structured clarity; the confidence to say: this is where it matters, and this is why.

Over fifteen years I have also worked to train my own capacity to observe clearly; through daily meditation practice and methods such as Theory U. It has taught me more about systems than I expected.

How I work

Causal Compass is founded and led by me. Every engagement is co-created; with the people inside the organisation who hold the knowledge, with the questions the system itself surfaces, and increasingly with AI as a thinking partner in the analytical process.

Depending on the complexity and scope of a project, I draw on a network of specialists in system dynamics, sustainability science, facilitation, and related fields. Where relevant, their involvement is discussed openly from the start.

If that is the kind of thinking your work calls for, I would be glad to be useful.

From complexity to clarity.
